The World’s Most Beautiful Suicide – Woman Jumps Off 86th Floor of Empire State Building
In May 1947, LIFE magazine devoted an entire page to this picture taken by photography student Robert Wiles. The photograph is of 23-year-old Evelyn McHale after she jumped off the observation platform of the Empire State Building. McHale left the world with a note about her husband saying, “He is much better off without me. . . . I wouldn’t make a good wife for anybody.“
